Dr. Rita R. Melissano is a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed both in Illinois and
Iowa. She received her Ph.D. from Brigham Young University, Provo, UT and was a
Clinical Psychologist in Italy before coming to the United States.
With more than 30 years of clinical experience, Dr. Melissano has worked with
individuals, couples, families and groups of every socio-economic and ethnic group,
spiritual belief, gender, age, ability and sexual orientation, civil and military background.
She is a Clinical Fellow and an Approved Supervisor of AAMFT, the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and has trained many professionals to be
licensed as MFT. She is an EAP counselor and an MBTI trainer as well.
Dr. Melissano speaks Spanish, French, Italian, and English, some Mandarin Chinese and
Modern Greek (and has studied Latin, Ancient Greek and Sanskrit). www.satvacenter.com
She has traveled extensively and presented at international university settings and world congresses (e.g. China, India, Hungary, Norway, Ecuador etc.).
As an educator, she taught graduate courses as an Associate Professor at St. Ambrose University, an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Iowa and Western Illinois University (USA).
Dr. Melissano has in fact played multiple roles professionally as a speaker, workshop leader, and an educator for study abroad programs to Countries like India and Ecuador.
As such, she combines her theoretical and directly acquired knowledge of diverse cultures with her clinical experience and spiritual philosophy, which permeates her entire existence. An eternal student of ancient mystical & sacred traditions, she is very
passionate about life, spiritual knowledge, her work and is currently writing a book on the art of mindful and conscious living.
As the executive director of Trinity Enrichment Center she created and organized two regional conferences on “Science and Spirituality” (offering both CEUs and CMEs) bringing awareness of holistic ancient methodologies and cutting edge approaches in the health & mental health care system to address body, mind, and spirit as one.
She is currently also in private practice and directs “Satva Center”, a holistic center in Rock Island, IL, USA that offers healing arts, spiritual teachings & retreats, and meditation practices, including Mindfulness. There she serves as a meditation teacher, Reiki Master Teacher of the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition, a spiritual retreat leader, and a Light Giver of the Sukyo Mahikari tradition.
As an ordained minister of the Order of Melchizedek she also officiates weddings and memorial services.
Dr. Melissano is often interviewed and consulted by local magazines and newspapers and has been a frequent guest on live talk shows and local TV stations.
