Substance Abuse and Addiction

Addiction is a condition that results when a person consumes a substance (e.g., alcohol, nicotine or any other drug) that is considered enjoyable but the continued use of which becomes compulsive. It interferes with one’s health , relationships and work. There maybe co-occurring psychiatric disorders requiring pharmacological and psychological intervention. Users may not be aware that their behaviour is causing a problem not only for themselves but is also creating a lot of emotional and economic hurdles for the family members as well. Family members also require support in helping persons with substance dependence. 

Addiction can be treated. We can assist you to deal with it. Psychological symptoms like depression, anxiety, irritability occur when the user starts abstaining. Medications may be given to ameliorate the discomfort of withdrawal.

About Our Substance Abuse Therapist : 

Ms Sri Snnigdha

Miss .Sri Snnigdha is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her masters and M.Phil  in

Clinical Psychology from IHBAS, New Delhi. She has worked with children, adults and the geriatric

population. Earlier she was associated with the De addiction centre of KEM Hospital, Mumbai and is

presently working as a consultant at a private clinic. She handled substance dependent patients

through individual and group therapy sessions for their motivation enhancement, craving management, problem solving skills, coping skill management, high risk situation prevention and relapse prevention. In addition, she conducted

awareness programmes in association with various NGOs at their centres and drug hot spots around

the city. She is simultaneously pursuing her PhD in the area of  substance dependence. 

At IHBAS, (New Delhi) she worked with patients with mental disorders like anxiety, depression, OCD,

psychosomatic illnesses , psychotic disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.  She has

experience in conducting  IQ assessments, psychological testing and therapy for children, adolescents and adults, parent training programmes and Neuropsychological assessments.                      She continues to teach post-graduate courses on clinical psychology, psychopathology as well as topics on various techniques used in therapy especially CBT.  She has attended several workshops on various forms of psychological therapies, testing and assessment in children, adolescents and adults in New Delhi and Mumbai.

She has made paper presentations at national (Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists) and regional level seminars (Bombay Psychiatric Society).She is simultaneously pursuing her PhD in the area of  substance dependence.
